W2W Fall Forum Topic: Barriers & Challenges to Available & Affordable Housing

BLOOMINGTON, IL – A public forum about barriers and challenges facing working families will be hosted by the Women to Women Giving Circle Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the ISU Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main St., Normal. The forum is free and open to the public.

“Working Families: Barriers & Challenges – Available & Affordable Housing” is the focus of the forum, which will run from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The forum continues the discussion about housing insecurity; the 2023 Spring Forum focused on housing and nutrition.

Panelists will be:

  • Mercy Davison discussing Planning and Zoning
  • Tim Ryan discussing Laborers’ Home Development Corporation
  • Mark Adams discussing the Bloomington-Normal Community Land Trust

Erin Duncan, attorney and member of the McLean County Housing Assistance Coalition, will moderate the panel discussion. A question and answer session will follow the panel discussion.

Pontiac Community Forum Scheduled

Women to Women will also hold a community forum about Food Insecurity on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Collective Food Forest at the corner of Cleary and Oak in Pontiac.

The forum, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., will feature speakers Baylee Ritter, owner of Everyone’s Collective, Tina Hammer of the Pontiac Salvation Army, and Mackenzie Coates and Riley Foster, Pontiac Township High School students who presented the concept to the Pontiac City Council.

Attendees are urged to bring a lawn chair for seating. In the event of poor weather, the forum will move indoors to the U of I Extension Office, 1412 S. Locust St., Pontiac. The event is free and open to the public.
