Barriers Facing Working Families Topic of Fall Forum

BLOOMINGTON, IL – A public forum about barriers and challenges facing working families will be hosted by the Women to Women Giving Circle Tuesday, September 20, at the ISU Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main St., Normal. The forum is free and open to the public.

“Working Families: Barriers & Challenges – Childcare and Transportation” is the focus of the forum, which will run from 4:30 to 6 p.m. This is the first forum to focus on this topic; the 2023 Spring Forum will focus on housing and nutrition.

Panelists will be:

  • Becky Heerdt, Child Care Resource and Referral Network recruitment and retention coordinator and a quality specialist
  • Kathleen Lorenz, United Way McLean County board member
  • Judy Buchanan, Connect Transit board member

Carol Weisheit, Regional Council Manager: Region 17 for Birth to Five Illinois, will kick off the forum with a historical perspective on child care in America. Diana Hauman, a member of the Women to Women Steering Committee, will moderate the panel discussion. A question and answer session will follow the panel discussion.
